A Warcraft III/World of Warcraft AU. In this world Prince Arthas Menethil does heed the words of his friend Muradin Bronzebeard and leaves the cursed runeblade Frostmourne in its icy sheath. Depressed, beaten and ashamed by the futility of his quest, Arthas orders his men to return to Lordearon, the guilt of his previous actions finally beginning to set in.
Arthas returns to Lordearon, humbled by the experience, and explains his actions. Though he expected punishment he is instead sent to deal with the plague that continues to rage through the north of the kingdom. Under the strict command of Uther Lightbringer the Alliance does its best to screen the people for signs of plague whilst trying to hunt down the Cult of the Damned that infest the region. Now that Arthas' expedition revealed the true nature of the plague the threat it presents is acknowledged all the more. The north is placed under quarantine and the armies of the ailing Alliance are

A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones AU. In this turn of events Robert Baratheon was a little too late in his retreat from the Tyrell forces at Ashford and was caught by Randyll Tarly's forces just as Mace Tyrell's reinforcements arrived. Robert was killed in battle and the rebellion immediately faltered.
Aery's response was immediate and brutal. All those he considered his enemies were captured and burnt. Egged on by the wisdoms of the Alchemist Guild who now made up the majority of his Small Council, Aery's initiated a period of blood-letting, pillage and rape that shook the Seven Kingdoms. The Riverlands and Stormlands bore the brunt of the slaughter but even the Vale and the North were assaulted (though these ones were much less successful). Prince Rhaegar led the attack on the North and exemplified himself by not only succeeding in seizing White Harbour by sea but even managed to defeat the Northerner armies and kill Eddard Stark.

ASOIAF scenario that attempts to provide a dark subversion of the popular “Ned lives”, “Stannis wins” and “Daenarys makes it to Westeros” ideas.
In this world Joffrey was taken ill due to some poorly prepared food and thus was unable to attend the confession of Eddard Stark. Cersei Lannister, as queen regent, received his confession and had him sentenced to the Wall as a member of the Night's Watch as penance for his crimes. He discovered his daughter Arya amongst the prisoners and other human detritus that was being shipped north and together they tried to come up with a viable plan to escape. Since his confession was a lie that had been forced out of him in false confidence by unlawful and illegitimate rulers, Eddard decided that the false oaths he had been made to give did not bind him. Therefore he believed he was free to make his way home and prepare the North and their allies to support Stannis Ba

An ASOIAF AU requested by RvBOMally based on a premise supplied on this thread. At the Purple Wedding the increasingly cruel and deranged King Joffrey Baratheon demands his new impromptu cupbearer, his uncle Tyrion Lannister, to taste test the wine he is being offered. Tyrion immediately collapses from an especially powerful poison and dies almost instantly. Terrified at the assassination attempt, Joffrey orders a witch hunt to find and execute the assassin and has dozens of innocents killed before he is satisfied.
Though Joffrey believes the culprits have been dealt with he is forever paranoid of another attempt on his life and becomes ever more erratic. Tywin, less convinced of the success of such witch hunts and furious that someone had successfully murdered a Lannister - even if it was Tyrion – conducts his own investigations whilst reorganising the kingdom to deal with the last vestiges of resistance.
Whilst the culprits of the attemp
